NRCC Offers Live Music Jan. 8

Gregory Brothers Return to Radford for Annual Holiday Show

It’s been a huge year for The Gregory Brothers, the band made up of Evan, Andrew, and Michael Gregory along with Evan’s wife Sarah. They’ve appeared on The Today Show, had a write-up in The New York Times, and had their “Bed Intruder” video ranked the #1 Most-Watched Independent YouTube video of 2010 with more than 50 million views. Bed Intruder merchandise was even found on sale at the Hot Topic in New River Valley Mall.

Michael Gregory attributes The New York Times coverage with putting them out “in front of people who are able to read.” He added, “No longer is our audience restricted to 13-25 year-olds adept at the art of typing ‘OMG, ROFLMAO.’”

David Mayfield Parade Comes to Roanoke

David MayfieldOn stage, David Mayfield is a ball of energy, whirling, twirling, gyrating, and shaking while singing and playing numerous instruments. Away from the stage, though, Mayfield is introspective and introverted.

Those are the two sides that make up the man, but one thing that permeates each side is music. Mayfield grew up in Ohio and was part of the Mayfield Family band starting at a young age. He would play shows with his parents and sister on the East Coast, in the Midwest, and at a handful of Canadian venues.

Just a couple years ago he toured as a bassist for his sister, Jessica Lea Mayfield, and he has also become a vital member of the band Cadillac Sky. (more…)

“The Nutcracker” Comes to RU Dec. 10-12

Dreams of sugar plum fairies will ring in the holiday season as the Radford University Ballet Theatre presents “The Nutcracker,” a holiday favorite for the entire family. Under the direction of Inessa Plekhanova, professor and artistic director of the RU Ballet Theatre, the performance promises to be a magical work set to the classic Tchaikovsky score, with performances held next week in the Bondurant Auditorium on Friday, Dec. 10, at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. (more…)

NRCC Readies for Next Music Jamboree Dec. 11

Whitetop Mountain BandBig Country Bluegrass and the Whitetop Mountain Band will perform at New River Community College’s Fiddle, Banjo and Dance Club Jamboree on Saturday, Dec. 11.
