Updated to include full results - Sen. John McCain continued to solidify his bid to be the Republican nominee for President and Sen. Barack Obama continued his momentum for the Democratic nomination as both men won the Virginia primary. McCain and Obama also took the Maryland and Washington, D.C. primaries as well.
Overall in the state of Virginia, Obama took a commanding victory over Sen. Hillary Clinton winning 63.5% of the vote to Clinton’s 35.5%. No other Democrat on the ballot had even 1% of the vote.
The Republican race was closer but McCain still netted 50.8% of the vote to 39.7% for former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. Texas Congressman Ron Paul received 4.7% of the vote and Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney received 3.4%.
New River Valley Results:
Obama defeated Clinton 49.47% to 47.96% in Floyd County.
Clinton defeated Obama 68.55% to 29.50% in Giles County.
Obama defeated Clinton 55.09% to 43.64% in Montgomery County.
Clinton defeated Obama 61.01% to 37.39% in Pulaski County.
Obama defeated Clinton 56.51% to 41.85% in Radford City.
On the Republican side, Huckabee defeated McCain 61.57% to 31.72% in Floyd County.
Huckabee defeated McCain 60.94% to 31.33% in Giles County .
Huckabee defeated McCain 56.86% to 34.51% in Montgomery County.
Huckabee defeated McCain 61.65% to 32.44% in Pulaski County.
Huckabee defeated McCain 52.90% to 35.96% in Radford City.
