New Grocery Store Coming to Christiansburg

February 12th, 2008 · No Comments

K-VA-T Food Stores (which stands for Kentucky, Virginia, and Tennessee) plans to bring its new chain of Super Dollar Discount Foods to the Northgate Village Shopping Center in Christiansburg, located across from the town’s recreation center. Steve Smith, president of K-VA-T, said that the Christiansburg location will be the fifth such store in his family-owned business.

The Christiansburg Super Dollar Discount Foods store will have a pharmacy and a Gas ’N Go, according to K-VA-T. Although the Discount Foods store is smaller than some supermarkets, it still carries a wide variety of items for purchase. “Since our first store opening, we’ve more than doubled the number of items we offer in just about every category,” Smith said. “And because we buy directly from the manufacturer, we receive a lower cost, which we pass on to our customers. This means huge savings off the national brand price.”

Christiansburg currently has two Food Lions, a Kroger, a Wades and a Wal-Mart Supercenter with a grocery store. The opening date for the new Super Dollar Discount Foods store has not been set yet because the remodeling of the building has not been completed. Randall Tipton, director of store operations, said, “I’m guessing the end of March, but that’s not for sure.”
