January 27th, 2008 · No Comments

On Jan. 30-31, Radford University will be one of 1,100 institutions from across the United States participating in “Focus the Nation,” which is a movement to initiate discussion on climate change and solutions to the climate crisis.

A webcast featuring Stanford University climate scientist Stephen Schneider, sustainability expert Hunter Lovins, and green jobs pioneer Van Jones will be shown in McGuffy Hall from 7 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 30. This webcast will focus on how individuals can reduce their carbon footprint.

On Jan. 31 the movie Kilowatt Ours, a short film by Jeff Barrie that was shot in Appalachia, will be shown in Room 203 of McGuffy Hall beginning at 8 p.m. The film explores the local impact of U.S. dependency on fossil fuels and, in turn, offers suggestions on how we can reduce our dependency.

RU’s student environmental group, the Green Team, in conjunction with the RU Environmental Center and the Club Programming Committee, are sponsoring the events. For more on Focus the Nation, visit www.focusthenation.org.
