Blue Ridge Music Center Continues Summer Concert Series

July 26th, 2010 · No Comments

The Kruger BrothersRaised in Switzerland, the Kruger Brothers will bring an international flavor to the Blue Ridge Music Center (milepost 213 on the Blue Ridge Parkway) on Saturday, July 31, when they join John Lilly and the Cheatin’ Hearts on the amphitheater stage.

Jens and Uwe Kruger have performed as an acoustic group worldwide for more than 30 years on guitar and banjo, embracing a wide range of styles. About a decade ago they were joined by bassist Joel Landsberg to form the acoustic trio known as the Kruger Brothers.

Their virtuoso playing and warm, friendly stage presence makes their music uniquely special. The Kruger Brothers’ musical style encompasses all types of music through their personal individual development, classical European musical influences, and love of the American spirit. Combined, the result is what can only be described as new American music.

Kicking off the show is West Virginia’s John Lilly. Specializing in Americana, country roots, and traditional folk music, Lilly was the 2005 winner of the national Ghost Writers in the Sky songwriting contest, competing to write a song in the style of Hank Williams. He routinely writes new songs that sound old and sings old songs as though there were written yesterday. He and his band, the Cheatin’ Hearts are an acoustic treat to be enjoyed.

The concert starts at 7 p.m. with seating beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tickets for this concert are $15. BRMC Concert Club members get a $2 discount per ticket. Call 276.236.5309 ext. 112 for info on how to join and save. This is an all ages event. Children 12 and under are free.
