Radford City Council has appointed current Acting City Manager David Ridpath as the new City Manager.
In a unanimous vote, the Council offered the position to Ridpath three weeks after the resignation of Tony Cox from the City Manager’s position.
Prior to his role as Acting City Manager, Ridpath served as Assistant City Manager since 2002.
In response to the announcement, Ridpath stated today, “I am humbled and honored Council has the confidence in me to be City Manager in the community I was born and raised in. I look forward to continuing in public service for the citizens of Radford. I am fortunate to have a wonderful staff that has helped and will help with this transition. I am looking forward to working with Council, staff, and the entire community as part of my new role.”
A 1980 graduate of Radford High School, Ridpath began working as an intern for the City of Radford while attending Virginia Tech. In the ensuing years, he served as the Public Information Officer/Community Assistance Coordinator before being named the City’s first Economic Development Director in 1986. From there, he became Director of Community Development in 1993 until being named Assistant City Manager in 2002.
He and his wife, Lisa, have one daughter, Abby.
