The Virginia Department of Education has named Radford University the host for the Commonwealth’s 2010 Summer Residential Governor’s Schools in the Humanities and Visual and Performing Arts to be held June 26-July 24, 2010. The schools will bring 400 gifted and talented rising junior and senior high school students from across Virginia to the university for 28 days of intense instruction. While the curriculum is still being developed by faculty members in the university, the theme of the schools will be “The Digital Humanities and Performing Arts.” Students will have an opportunity to work with university faculty members to develop new technological skills and then apply that knowledge to topics in the humanities or visual and performing arts that they wish to explore.

Summer residential governor’s schools offer participants the opportunity to live, study, and get to know other students with similar interests and abilities from across Virginia. Both co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are designed to encourage students’ interests and abilities. Nominations for attendance may be made by teachers, guidance counselors, peers, or by the students themselves.
