The Radford Visitor’s Center is sponsoring a photo contest showcasing the city’s many vultures. In preparation for Radford’s third annual Vulture Festival to be held Saturday, Feb. 20, you are encouraged to concentrate on outdoor viewings, candid shots, and interesting aspects of vulture characteristics.
All ages are encouraged to enter. There will be an adult category and a junior photographer category for those under 18. The photos will be displayed at the 2010 Vulture Festival and attendees will vote for their favorites. Entrants are welcome to bring family and friends to the Vulture Festival to vote for their photos and increase their chance of winning.
Grand Prizes - The winning shots from both the adult and the junior categories will receive an official 2010 Vulture Festival T-shirt and will be announced at the upcoming event. Other awards may also be given.
Deadline - Photos must be received by Friday, Feb. 19. Please see below for submission details.

How to enter:
Please include the following information with your photo and mail or deliver to Radford Visitor’s Center (inside Glencoe Museum), 600 Unruh Dr, Radford, VA 24141. It can also be e-mailed to: info@visitradford.com. Please note on envelopes or subject line “Attention Photo Contest.” Printed photos may also be submitted at the Vulture Festival by 2:30 pm on Saturday, Feb. 20 at McHarg Elementary, 700 12th Street, Radford, VA 24141.
Radford Photo Contest Rules
Digital contest entries should be submitted in the original JPG format on CD or via e-mail to info@visitradford.com. No retouching, enhancements, or computer manipulation is allowed.
The photos should be 300 dpi. If using at least a 5 or 6 mega pixel camera, this shouldn’t be a problem—just have the camera set to the highest quality/resolution setting.
One photo attachment per e-mail please.
Photos without entry forms will be disqualified.
Photos will be selected as the Grand Prize Winners on how well they embody the idea of “Things are looking up in Radford-celebrate the vulture.”
Additional Rules
1. The Radford Visitor’s Center Photo Contest is strictly for amateur photographers. Amateur photographers are those who derive less than 5 percent of their income from photography.
2. Black-and-white and color photographs taken after Jan. 1, 2007, are eligible. This allows for extended eligibility. Photos previously published (in any format/media) or entered in any other competitions are not eligible.
3. Photographs may be taken with any make of camera. No retouching or other alteration (except cropping) is permitted of negatives, prints or electronic photo files; no composite pictures or multiple printing will be accepted. Digital photos may be submitted in their original JPG file format (via e-mail or disk) or a printed photograph. Slide (transparency) photos are not accepted.
4. Entrant must know the name and contact information of any recognizable persons appearing in the picture and this information must be enclosed/attached with the entry.
5. By entering this contest, each entrant agrees that The Radford Visitor’s Center may publish their pictures for promotional purposes. Entrants must be able to furnish the original negative or original digital image if requested by the contest editor. All photos submitted become the property of The Radford Visitor’s Center, although a photo credit will be given when the photo is used. Photos cannot be returned. The Visitor’s Center and contest sponsors assume no responsibility for negatives, diskettes, CDs or photo prints.
6. All decisions regarding the photo selected as the grand prize winners are final and at the sole discretion of the Radford Visitor’s Center.
