New Helmet Law in Effect for Radford

January 18th, 2010 · No Comments

Moped and scooter owners take note:  A new law went into effect Jan. 1 that requires all moped/scooter drivers and passengers to wear a helmet while in Radford.

The helmet law was passed in response to the growing number of mopeds and scooters sharing the road with other vehicles. Radford City Council felt it was important to take steps to help ensure all drivers get to their destination safely.

The law requires that helmets be approved for use on motorcycles.

Moped drivers and passengers cited for not wearing a helmet may be found guilty of a traffic infraction and subject to a $50 fine.

Police Chief Don Goodman urged all moped and scooter drivers to always wear a helmet.
