Radford University and the city of Radford today announced that each would join forces with the U.S. Census to encourage a complete count of Radford’s students and residents in 2010. The partnership will be made official Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 9 a.m. when representatives from all three parties will participate in a signing event at Radford City Public Library, 30 W. Main St. 24141.
“The census is a very important function in order to determine the population of the nation, state, and city,” said Radford Mayor Thomas Starnes, who will be representing the city at the event. “We are fortunate to have Radford University officials as well as several other organizations assisting to assure that an accurate tabulation of the census occurs during the next several months.”
Kathy Jordan, Director of Experiential Learning and Career Development at RU will represent the university at the event.
“January, 2010 is the beginning of the RU Centennial Celebration and what better way to honor our 100 years of service to the Commonwealth of Virginia than by committing to serve this region by working with the U.S. Census to get a full count of the RU student population,” she said.
A Census Road Tour van, which is one of 13 around the country bringing census information and interactive displays to citizens, will be on site to give away promotional items and literature.
