Giving Thanks in the NRV

November 18th, 2009 · No Comments

cornucopia.gifWe’ve asked various folks throughout the New River Valley to let us know what they are thankful for this year. Between now and Thanksgiving, we plan to add a few more thoughts of thanks per day, so check back daily to see what your friends, neighbors, and community leaders are thankful for! And let us know what you are thankful for, too! Add your thoughts in the “Comments” section below!

I am thankful for family, friends, freedom to make personal choices, for good health and the opportunity to live in such a beautiful part of the country. I am also thankful for the sacrifices that current and former residents of the New River Valley are making and have made in order that you and I may have the freedom that we enjoy every day.
Tom Starnes, Mayor of the City of Radford

I am thankful for a wonderful family, supportive friends, the majestic Appalachian Mountains, the cool currents of the New River which remind me that I’m alive, trees with deep roots that remind me of my groundedness in this place, powerful stories that form and shape me, and the sacrifices of others which challenge me to be a better person.
The Rev. Wes Jamison, Minister and Counselor

I am thankful for life; for my wonderful parents who taught us to see the glass half full rather than half empty and to live each day fully as if it were our last; for wonderful husband, children, grandchildren, extended family and friends; for so many souls—younger and older—who care about others, for the beauty of our area; for all the experiences and opportunities life has brought me; for all working for peace, justice, and  environmental issues; for all in service to others; for the ability to play the piano; for the opportunity to serve on our school board, and for the presence of the Great Spirit. A blessed Thanksgiving to all!
Phyllis Albritton, Montgomery County School Board (District A)
