Liz del Pilar started painting in 1987, when she studied drawing and color technique at the Fine Arts College of Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Since then she has had mentors who contributed to enrich and guide her artistic spirit. Liz del Pilar moved to the New River Valley two years ago. Since then she has participated in several exhibits, among them, the “Wonderful First Wednesdays” in downtown Blacksburg’s Kent Square and the Sustainability Week. Liz del Pilar is an exhibiting member of the Blacksburg Regional Arts Association.

On Nov. 19, the Radford Heritage Foundation brings del Pilar and a selection of her works entitled “Fragments” for exhibition at the Glencoe Museum. The exhibit will begin on Nov. 19 and be available for viewing until the Jan. 9, 2010.

The artistic interests of Liz del Pilar include choreography and theatrical direction. Her latest play is The Little Prince, with her student actors of ages between 9 and 13 years. The performance is programmed for November of 2009 in the Haymarket Theater in Blacksburg.

The paintings of del Pilar feature an outstanding use of color inspired in tropical themes, which she has merged with the romantic palette of the seasons of the New River Valley. As a preamble to paint a theme, she contemplates the landscape; then puts it on canvas using her impressions in a passionate composition of color and movement.
