The fourth ornament in the Blacksburg Museum’s holiday series is now available for purchase at the Blacksburg Municipal Building, the Lyric Theater, the downtown UPS Store and the Tech Bookstore on Main Street. The cost is $15 plus tax and ornaments will be available throughout the coming year.
This year’s ornament features the Huckleberry Train Station, which sat on Main Street at the site of the current Blacksburg Municipal Building. The Huckleberry Train line ran from Cambria to Blacksburg beginning in 1904 and continuing until the 1960s. It was a spur line, and so the train ran forward from Cambria and then made the return trip in reverse. The Norfolk and Western (N&W) station depicted on the ornament was built in 1913, replacing an earlier station where the current Blacksburg Library is located. The station was razed in March 1967.
A limited number of the previous two ornaments are also available, and can be purchased at the same price. The 2008 ornament featured the Blacksburg Motor Company, and the 2007 ornament featured the Odd Fellows Hall.
