Kyle, Faculty Senate to Meet Nov. 10

November 5th, 2009 · No Comments

Perhaps the lack of a story is the story. On Thursday the Radford University Faculty Senate held its regularly scheduled meeting, which resembled much more of typical meeting than many of those from the spring semester and the fall semester thus far.

At RU’s Oct. 20 Faculty Senate meeting, the group voted that it had no confidence in the academic leadership of RU Provost Wil Stanton. The administration has made no public comment since.

While Thursday’s meeting provided few fireworks, the group did vote on a motion to conduct a Nov. 10 special meeting with RU President Penelope Kyle as a Committee of the Whole.

The motion read:

Whereas, The purpose of the special meeting scheduled for the 10th of November 2009 is to have an open exchange with President Kyle on issues connected with the vote of no confidence in the provost, and

Whereas, Under Robert’s Rules of Order such a free-form discussion can only take place in a Committee of the Whole, therefore be it

Resolved, The Faculty Senate directs that the November 10th meeting will be conducted as a Committee of the Whole.

What this means is that the meeting will be somewhat less formal so that actual conversations and exchanges can take place between Kyle and members of the Faculty Senate. While Kyle has met with the Faculty Senate Executive Committee since the no confidence vote in the provost, this will her first time to address the full Faculty Senate.

A motion to recommend to the provost adoption of the internal governance decision matrix as revised by the governance committee was also made with the item tabled until the next regularly scheduled meeting for discussion and a vote.

Other points of business including committee reports and a report from the vice president of the Faculty Senate.
