The Christiansburg-Blacksburg Club of Rotary International was recognized on Friday evening for its support of high school athletics in the Montgomery County Public School District.
Last spring, the club supported Auburn High School by purchasing eight rows of bleachers for the baseball field. This donation capped a 2 1/2 year effort to provide direct support to young people in all county high schools and to the community as a whole. The other three Montgomery County high schools have received new scoreboards, as part of the club’s Four-Peat project for local high school athletics.
President Dan Berenato and assistant district governor Ernie Bentley were on hand to receive the recognition from Auburn Principal Carl Pauli. Bentley, also a member of the local club, praised the project as an example of how Rotarians across the world are benefitting people both abroad and at home.
Berenato said, “Under the leadership of former president Ike Eller, we were proud to be able to complete our four-peat effort to enhance the facilities used by our students, families and members of the community. This recognition will be a highlight of our Rotary year.”
The recognition ceremony took place just before the start of the Auburn vs. Floyd County game Oct. 9.
