Civics Bus to Visit Blacksburg

October 12th, 2009 · No Comments

Comcast will bring the C-SPAN Civics Bus to Blacksburg on Oct. 14 as its national tour takes it through the state of Virginia, where it will make stops at universities, high schools, the State Capitol, and a community festival. In Blacksburg, the bus will stop at Blacksburg High School, located at 520 Patrick Henry Dr., from noon to 2:30 p.m.

The visit will provide students, teachers, and the public an opportunity to tour the C-SPAN Civics Bus and learn about C-SPAN’s unique public affairs programming. In addition to a special appearance by Blacksburg Mayor Ron Rordam, visitors will have the opportunity to view C-SPAN’s free video resources on the Virginia Gubernatorial election.

“We welcome C-SPAN and Comcast as they bring the Civics Bus to the Town of Blacksburg,” Rordam said. “The bus provides a unique resource for engaging our citizens in the electoral process and educating them on the role of the media in politics.”

This year marks the bus’s 16th year on the road.
