The Kenny and Amanda Smith Band from Meadows of Dan and The Whitetop Mountain Band from Grayson County will be featured performers during New River Community College’s Fiddle, Banjo and Dance Club Jamboree to be held on Saturday, Dec. 8.
The Kenny and Amanda Smith Band were winners of the International Bluegrass Music Association’s prestigious Emerging Artist of the Year award in 2003.
Kenny Smith’s professional credits include six years with the Lonesome River Band. Since starting his new band he and his wife, Amanda, have recorded four CDs, with the most recent Shoutin’ Time currently rated number one on the Bluegrass Now Gospel Charts.
The Whitetop Mountain Band features the following members: Thornton Spencer on fiddle; Martha Spencer, guitar, fiddle, banjo and vocals; Jackson Cunningham, mandolin and vocals; Emily Spencer, banjo and vocals; Debbie Bramer, bass; and Spencer Pennington, guitar and vocals. Their newest CD, Bull Plus 10%, is available on Arhoolie Records.
The jamboree will be held in Edwards Hall, room 117 from 7 to 10 p.m. at New River Community College’s campus in Dublin.
The doors open at 5 p.m. There is no charge for admission; however, donations will be accepted to help pay travel expenses for the musicians.
