The first annual Pink Moon Festival takes place Sept. 18 – 20. The festival location will be in Rock Camp, West Virginia. The music of the festival features local as well as nationally known bands specializing in funk, world, blues, rock, reggae, jam and roots music.
The organizer of the event is Seth Abramson. He named the festival after his mother, Pinky, who passed away nearly three years ago in an unfortunate ATV accident.
“The festival is a tribute to my mother’s love of community and appreciation for the way music brings us together,” Abramson said. Before her passing, the two operated the Rock Camp store, where it transformed from a local general store into a community center. They hosted music concerts, open mic nights, pool tournaments, and a whole horde of grassroots events.
Abramson has also worked with many music festivals including Bonnaroo, Gemini Fest, FloydFest, and many others. His experiences have helped reinforce the network of artists who will be performing.
Acts on the bill include the funk root stylings of Sol, world reggae jammers the Alliens, Grateful Dead inspired grooves of The Kind, roots rockers High Street, laid-back bluegrass pickers Relacksachian, the acoustic vibes of the Homewreckers, and many more.
Proceeds go to supporting the Rock Camp store, which is currently closed for major remodeling. Weekend camping is also available. Visit www.myspace.com/pinkmoonfestival to hear songs from some of the bands performing.
