Speed Date with a FloydFest Act: Soulhound

July 21st, 2009 · No Comments

Band name? Soulhoundsoulhound.jpg

Where is the band based? Atlanta, Georgia

Where do you typically tour? In the Southeast: mainly Georgia, Florida, Alabama, the Carolinas, and after Floydfest, a stop in Virginia!

What’s your most recent CD? A Quickie in the Cave, our first CD, came out at the end of May.

Are you signed to a label? Not at this time.

Who are your musical influences? There are many and it’s ever changing. Here is a list we threw together when we needed to put the same info on our MySpace page: ARU, Bill Withers, Clarence Carter, Eric Clapton, Frank Zappa, Galactic, Gov’t Mule, Grant Green, Jaco Pastorius, James Brown, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Smith, Larry Graham & Graham Central Station, Marvin Gaye, Medeski Martin and Wood, Motown, Pat Metheny, Percy Hill, Phish, Pink Floyd, Prince, Ray Charles, Robben Ford, Sam & Dave, SRV, Stax, Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, The Brand New Heavies, The Meters, Tower of Power.

Who are some musical acts that sound like you? It’s a really good question, we do wear our influences on our sleeves a bit but I’m not sure there is another band cooking up the same musical stew we are. The best I can do is come up with a Frankenstein mixture for you … The Meters meets Hendrix meets Steely Dan … or Sly Stone meets Gov’t Mule. A group of musicians told us the other day we sounded sort of like The Screaming Headless Torsos—it was a great compliment those guys are fantastic.

Why should I come see you? Because after our set, you won’t be sorry you decided to see us. It sounds like a lot of swagger, but once you hear Soulhound live you will become a fan. Chances are, if you are at FloydFest, you happily devour music and are looking for more great music to sink your teeth into. Soulhound is your next tasty bite! Mmmm funky!

When will you be playing? Friday at 8 p.m. on the VIP Stage; Saturday at 5:15 p.m. on the Pink Floyd Garden Stage.

What are you most looking forward to about playing at FloydFest? First, we have heard nothing but wonderful things about this festival from our friends that have either attended or performed. Everyone says FloydFest is first class all around, so it’s really exciting to be a part of this year’s event. That said, I think we are most looking forward to turning people on to what Soulhound does. We are one of the “Under The Radar” bands so by definition, we are an unknown band to a lot of the people attending, and to be honest we love coming in as an unknown. We play pretty intense, high energy shows that are sort of a jolt if you don’t know what you are in for. After playing a festival recently, someone described our set as a “Drive By Funkin’.” We love that!
