The City of Radford is sponsoring an Electronic E-Waste Collection Day in partnership with Scott Recycling, giving the community an opportunity to clear out old electronics while being earth friendly at the same time. The event will be held at the Electric Department, 701 17th Street on Saturday, from 9 a.m. – noon.
Items that can be recycled include: TVs, VCRs, DVD players, CRT and LCD monitors, laptops, computer towers (hard drives), printers, copiers, scanners, keyboards, fax machines, modems, input devices, video/surveillance cameras, stereos, CD players, telephones, cell phones, speakers, glucose meters, digital cameras, projectors, wires, cable, video game systems, microwave ovens, small electronic household appliances, most commercial equipment, etc.
Scott Recycling will take dropped off items, disassemble them at their facility in Pulaski, then recycle and/or properly dispose of the components. No information remaining on computer hard drives, cell phones, cameras, etc. is retrieved during this process and will be safely destroyed.
Why is recycling E-waste so important? In addition to getting rid of unwanted items from your house, recycling electronics prevents highly toxic components like lead, mercury, and arsenic from being released in land fills.
Early drop off will also be available on Friday, July 17 from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. if you can’t make it out on Saturday. Please call Becky Hawke at 540.731.3603 with questions.
