Electric Woodshed is a rock ‘n’ roll stew made from the best home-grown southern ingredients of blues, rock, and country soul. Since 1987, the Shed has been filling clubs and ears with bluesy, funky, country, and classic rock sounds to solidify their own authentic brand of southern Virginia rock and roll.
Electric Woodshed returns to the Sun Music Hall in Floyd on Friday, July 10 at 8:30 pm.
The Shed performs music from their favorite artists such as The Allman Brothers Band and Little Feat to blues greats such as Muddy Waters and Freddie King. Well-known in the New River Valley and beyond for many years, after a little break, the band is back.
The group garnered attention early in their career in Blacksburg in the mid to late 80s as a hot live act built on the dual lead guitars of Craig Counts and Dan Dunlap, and they gained even more notoriety in 1989 with the addition of Jonathan Barker on the keys.
They also backed up onetime Muddy Waters’ guitarist Bob Margolin on occasion, and backed up the late great Bo Diddley at The Iroquois in Roanoke in the fall of 1989. The Shed is now tearing it up like never before with Counts, Dunlap, and Barker from the old days, and a rhythm section of Greg Bump on bass and King George Penn Jr. on drums.
Tickets for Electric Woodshed are $8 in advance and $10 day of show, and are available by calling 540.745.6643, Harvest Moon in Floyd, Rocket Music in Blacksburg, Fret Mill Music in Roanoke, or online at www.dlpconcerts.com.
The Sun Music Hall is located in downtown Floyd and is dedicated to offering diverse and superb performance art. The venue’s goal is to present music, dances, comedy, theater and children’s programming as well as classes and workshops.
