Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band plays at Nesselrod on the New July 4.Sunken Garden Sundays presents its only Saturday show of its summer concert series held at Nesselrod on the New. Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band will be rockin’ the Sunken Garden Amphitheatre July 4, beginning at 8:30 p.m. Former local talent Stephanie Rooker will open the explosive July 4 event.

A funk phenomenon from Asheville, North Carolina, the Booty Band brings its exciting and unpredictable stage show to the New River Valley for a holiday extravaganza.

Their horn, guitar, and percussion-based sound is designed to make feet flock to the dance floor. Adding elements of hip hop, reggae, ska, and latin to the mix, funk is the base from which the music begins. The band is excited about bonding these genres of music together into a style they call “Bounce Music.”

Striking the match to jumpstart the evening will be former Radford native Stephanie Rooker. Her musical influences range from singer-songwriter folk of her native Appalachia to her immersion in traditional folk music of Ghana, from her distinctive grasp of the cultural evolution of American gospel/blues/jazz/soul/hip-hop to her passion for the conscious vibes of 1970s soul and reggae music, her sound is fresh and cultivated.

Rooker sings with the careful phrasing of a soulful Eva Cassidy, the wailing of a young, blues-steeped Bonnie Raitt, and the self-affirmative slant of Stevie Wonder.

Tickets for Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band with Stephanie Rooker are $15 for lawn seating and $20 for the garden amphitheatre. The garden amphitheatre is open to those 21 and over (17 and under accompanied by a legal guardian; children under 12, free admission). Please be prepared to present a valid ID.

Tickets will be available through the DLP Concerts’ online box office, by phone at 540.745.6643 or at Bull & Bones Brewhaus in Blacksburg, Rocket Music in Blacksburg, Fret Mill Music in Roanoke, Harvest Moon in Floyd, and Claret Café in Radford.

Food and drinks will be available at the venue. Nesselrod on the New is located on the Pulaski County side of the New River just across Memorial Bridge from Radford. For more information please visit www.dlpconcerts.com or contact 540.745.6643.
