ArtSpeak Talks Artisan Trails

June 25th, 2009 · No Comments

ArtSpeak and Round the Mountain are teaming up to spread the word on the artisan trails in the New River Valley. There will be a panel discussion today from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Lyric Theatre in Blacksburg.

“Round the Mountain is a nonprofit organization with a mission to promote sustainable economic development in regions and communities by offering educational, entrepreneurial, and marketing opportunities to artisans, farmers, and the businesses that support arts, hand-craft, and agriculture in Southwest Virginia,” said Pat Sharkey of Round the Mountain.

ArtSpeak is a more local organization and provides artists with connections in an attempt to spread to word of their craft.

“ArtSpeak is a monthly series developed by and for artists and arts organizations featuring speakers and events of interest to the New River Valley arts community,” said Jessica Wirgau of ArtSpeak. “While we aim to serve the arts community primarily, we regular have members of local government, business, and industry attend our events given the close connection between the arts and regional economic development.”

The event is intended to have Round the Mountain assist communities in the New River Valley in developing a network with other communities.

Rachel Shapiro is an intern for the New River Voice.
