April Danner, a local historian, will lead participants on a tour of four family cemeteries. The tour will begin at Smithfield Plantation, with the Preston cemetery on the grounds of the plantation where over sixty members of the Scots-Irish Preston family are buried. The tour will also include the cemetery at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, highlighting several of the German families from the area. Third, the tour will visit Kentland Farm to see the Scots-Irish Kent family cemetery, as well as the African American slave cemetery, both on the grounds of the plantation. The tour will conclude at the David Harless Cemetery, another German family cemetery that dates to the colonial period.
