thackery.jpgThe next concert on the docket in Nesselrod on the New’s summer concert series is Jimmy Thackery, who will be performing as part of Sunken Garden Sundays June 28.

Thackery will be playing, with an opening performance by Scott Fore, at the Sunken Garden Amphitheatre at Nesselrod on the New, which sits on the bluff of the New River on the Pulaski County side of Memorial Bridge, which goes from Radford to Pulaski County.

Whether Jimmy Thackery headlines a festival or jams for hours in a blues bar, he’ll always unleashes an intense volley of rockin’ blues guitar.

“I put all my senses on hold and find the zone and follow what’s inside,” Thackery said. “There’s an electricity from your mind to your heart to your fingers. You just try and remember to breathe.”

Between constant road work with his own band, producing the latest record by his Arkansas friends, the Cate Brothers, recording Whiskey Store with Tab Benoit and touring in support and playing various Nighthawks reunions, Thackery’s plate is overflowing, and that’s exactly how Thackery likes life.

Opening the evening for Thackery will be Scott Fore. Fore is an internationally recognized guitarist, having won the National Flatpicking Championships held annually in Winfield, Kansas. He is also the Doc Watson guitar champion and the Wayne Henderson Champion of Champions. Fore is a master of blues, bluegrass, and jazz.

Tickets for Jimmy Thackery with Scott Fore are $10 for lawn seating and $15 for the garden amphitheatre.  The garden amphitheatre is open to 21 and over (17 and under accompanied by a legal guardian; children under 12, free admission), please be prepared to present a valid ID.

Tickets will be available through the DLP Concerts’ online box office, by phone at 540-745-6643 or at Fret Mill Music in Roanoke, Harvest Moon in Floyd, Rocket Music in Blacksburg, Bull & Bones in Blacksburg and Claret Café in Radford.
