For those if you who are concerned about the havoc we humans wreak upon our surroundings, Planet Green (which is a great channel and I hope you receive it—I get it on Dish Network) offers a TV show that discusses how “stuff happens.” And sure enough, it’s called “Stuff Happens” and is hosted by Bill Nye of “Bill Nye the Science Guy” fame.
Basically, for this 30-minute show Nye and his crew take a look at one aspect of our lives or one area of our house and he explores the environmental hazards and impact. For instance, he might investigate the attic in one episode, looking at things such as mothballs. Or he might explore something such as pets (oh that kitty litter!) or the beach (quit tossing out your cigarette butts!) and take a look at the environmental effects of those things.
Nye is great and the program is educational. The other “actors” on the show can sometimes be annoying, as can the woman doing the voiceovers, but the lessons learned are well worth the minor irritation you get from them.
Technically, the show airs Tuesday nights, but you can often catch past episodes throughout the week. You can find an episode guide and show schedule here.
Tim W. Jackson is the Editor of the New River Voice and tries to be environmentally conscious as much as possible.

I was wondering what happened to Bill Nye’s program since my kids are about the age to enjoy him. I didn’t know about Planet Green… I’ll have to check it out and look up some Stuff Happens episodes for for the kids (and me)!
