Literacy Volunteers Book Sale Begins Thursday

February 8th, 2009 · No Comments

Do you love to read or are you perhaps interested in reading a good book to someone you love this Valentine’s weekend? Literacy Volunteers of the New River Valley will offer plenty of book bargains at their Annual Book Sale at the New River Valley Mall.

The sale begins 7 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12. The four-day sale runs through Sunday, Feb. 15. All proceeds benefit free literacy instruction for adults in the New River Valley that need help with reading and writing, and adults that cannot speak English.

The Literacy Volunteers of the New River Valley provides opportunities to help adults to achieve independence through literacy. Students in Montgomery, Giles, Floyd, and Pulaski counties and Radford, with the help of their volunteer tutors, are putting their achievements to use-reading the newspaper, E-mailing, filling out job applications, getting driver’s licenses, understanding doctors’ orders, and just reading for pleasure.

LV-NRV is a 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt organization and a locally based affiliate of ProLiteracy America.

The hours and book prices are available on the organization’s Web site or call 540.382.7262.
