Nepotism at Work: Kiss My Left Behind

September 4th, 2008 · No Comments

We’ve seen various cases of nepotism over the years. There has been some controversy in West Virginia regarding the Governor and his daughter. Coaches have often been known to have a son on their staffs. And heck, Jeb Bush helped steal a Presidential election for his brother in 2000!

Kiss My Left Behind by Earl LeeSo in the midst of this heated political season, I don’t mind showing a little love to my cousin, Earl Wayne Lee, who has authored the Kiss My Left Behind series. Yes, it’s a parody of the novels by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins.

I still know Lee as Wayne. You see, his dad is my Uncle Earl, so with his dad named Earl, we all called Earl the Younger by his middle name. But as an author living in Kansas, he now goes by the name of Earl Lee.

And back in the early days of Bush Corp., Earl Lee penned his first parody on the Left Behind series. In the gotta-laugh-to-keep-from-crying mode, Lee published the original Kiss My Left Behind. Depending on your stance on religion and politics, you with either find this a witty illustration of the hypocrisy, greed, and fanaticism in religion and politics or you will find it a crude, offensive, sacrilege.

In 2004, Lee published the second book in his series, this one titled Kiss My Left Behind 2: The Tribulation Farce. If you hated the first one, you’ll hate this one. If you loved the first one, you’ll love this one.

Lee’s most recent addition to the series is Raptured: The Final Daze of the Late, Great Planet Earth. In this book, like the others, Lee uses the nearly lost art of satire as he examines religious and political hypocrisy and uses a collection of wacky characters to humorously illustrate real-world problems.

Never afraid to let his feelings be known, Lee continues writing in Kansas and enjoys recommending books to others. Check out his recommendations here. Dear ol’ cousin, you like to stir things up a bit, don’t you.

But I know the truth, Wayne, um, I mean Earl, was jilted in his early 20s by Ann Coulter and now he is seeking revenge on all things Ann believes in!

OK, that’s not true, but it would make a good story.

Anyway, so there you have it—an introduction to my cousin and the author Earl Lee.

Tim W. Jackson is related to the Lees on his mother’s side. His mom grew up in Arkansas where she had five brothers and a sister. One of his other cousins, Larry Lee, was a journalist who was killed in Guatemala in 1999.
