FloydFest ‘08 is right around the corner (July 24-27), but with so many musical acts, how do you decide who you should see? Take a speed date and see if this act is right for you!

Band name? Gokh-Bi System

Where is the band based? The band is based between Senegal and USA.

Where do you typically tour? We toured Africa, USA, and Canada, in some of the biggest festivals in the world.

What’s your most recent CD? The new CD coming soon is Voice of the Jeli.

Are you signed to a label? We are signed with AMU MUSIC, an indie label based in NYC.

Who are your musical influences? Our influences are traditional music from west Africa, old school hip hop like the Last Poets, KRS One, Dead Prez, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Michael Franti and reggae.

Who are some musical acts that sound like you? Our music sounds just like us. It’s ancient meets Urban; traditional music from Senegal mixed with modern hip hop.

Why should I come see you? People need to come check Gokh-Bi System to discover African hip hop, the message, and also our music is unique, it’s something that you won’t see nowhere else.

When will you be playing? We are playing Friday at 11 p.m. and Saturday at 5 p.m.

What are you most looking forward to about playing FloydFest? We just want to come and share the message of peace, love, justice, the music and extend the Gokh-Bi System Family.
