Editor’s Note: At this time of year, many of us stop, if only briefly amid our hectic lives and rampant consumerism, to give thanks for what we do have. Sometimes it’s easy to feel sorry for ourselves for what we don’t have without thinking about our good health, family members who love us, the good fortune to have found that someone special.

And as we think about what we have to be thankful for, we should also pay homage to those who make it a habit, either through their job or by volunteering, to help people on a daily basis.
